Welcome to your arena for the next month!! Your setting is the Isle of Champions, an island where three different kingdoms acknowledge the place as unclaimed territory, saving this particular piece of land specifically for an event held once every three years: The War Games. Something like what some may know as the Olympics, the top athletes from each kingdom are invited to participate in a series of games for a number of weeks. A major difference? Magic’s allowed to run wild, and as long as you don’t intend to kill anyone, anything goes. Break a leg! Hopefully not literally.

Sports of all types are placed in The Games, taking the mundane to rather extreme levels. If you have any suggestions for games that you’d like to see, feel free to drop a comment here! Suggestions will be used for a prompt that you’ll eventually see in the mingle itself. However there are three large events that take place during The War Games.

» Relay One of two events where every athlete is expected to participate, a kingdom’s finest will join in on this competition that forces them to swim across the sea, hike mountains, and place their trust in each other in order to claim victory! This takes place during the first half of the festivities.
» Dodgeball The second event where every athlete is expected to participate - a very simple, very aggressive game of dodgeball. This ain’t like your old high school gym class! This takes place during the second half of the festivities.
» The Gala In the very middle of The War Games, there’s - you guessed it - a great old party! Let’s all have a roaring good time, shall we?

Everyone is invited to The War Games! Athletes, reporters, spectators, politicians, fans, staff, volunteers, even stylists to make sure that the athletes and their costumes look their best for their debuts!!

An AU Plotting Note: For this particular world, there are no plot-protected roles. Feel free to reach as wildly as you’d like for your AU! Whether you’re a star athlete or a politician, do whatever your heart dreams of. In the future, roles that cannot be claimed in order to preserve the plot will be denoted every workshop. :)

three kingdoms?

That’s right! Are you ready for your faction sorting?!

First, here’s the basic information on the world:

» While factions are immediately sorted into a homeland, people are free to move around in their AUs if they’d like to belong to a different kingdom! However, wherever your character was born, they will have an affinity to that magic, and will never be quite as strong in another element as their original element. That said, they can learn how to wield other elements if they wish to.
» For Original characters who do not adapt to the world lore, they will keep their canon powers. Remixed characters will forfeit their canon powers in exchange for the world’s preset powers.
» All technology in the world is modern, though some kingdoms are more familiar with amenities than others. Great strides have been made in Virtual Reality in particular.

Saiside, Fire Burning
A land that was once at war with the Ice Kingdom Holmeshelm three decades ago, the whimsical and breezy Saiside people would now rather spend their days on their sunny, picturesque beaches. Their capitol might be positioned right by an active volcano, but it’s nothing that their fire powers aren’t able to handle! Prime Minister Ariana Grande has sought a tense peace with the Ice Kingdom rather than pursue any further aggression, and has been rewarded for it with a booming tourist population. Those belonging to Knight’s Class and Ruler’s Class were born here.

Holmeshelm, Ice Ice Baby
Ruled by the same bloodline for centuries, the Kingdom of Holmeshelm has a history of conquest and war - not that you’d guess it these days! With the health of the royal family failing, all eyes are on Prince Harry Styles and his eccentric ways. The frozen tundra that surrounds the capitol means that the inhabitants with ice powers can shape the landscape to their will, and their hard work is always rewarded with a beautiful Aurora Borealis at night. Holmeshelm manages to feel the most ancient of all the kingdoms, every inch of it telling a story of its history and pride. Those belonging to Artist’s Class and Mage’s Class were born here.

Idoll, Earth-Shattering
While they were able to technically claim their independence from Holmeshelm thirty years ago, Idoll still finds themselves printing money with Prince Harry’s face on it. The Bangtan Party presides over their Congress, but accepts the symbolic fealty to Holmeshelm in exchange for protection and economic support. The mountains that surround them mean that they’re able to use their earth powers to their fullest extent, but still need to import food supplies from elsewhere. Still, despite the slight depression and dip in their standard of living, Idoll is by far the most beautiful of the kingdoms, full of natural resources and areas of land that are untouched by man made ruin, from their deep valleys to cascading waterfalls. Those belonging to Nomad’s Class and Thief’s Class were born here.

Remixed Backstory: Originally from Holmeshelm, currently living in Saiside! Doesn't really talk about why he's there, doesn't really talk about anything else he might ever have done for a living, generally keeps where he's from low-key. Probably something happened there? Good luck getting it out of him! He still uses his ice powers sometimes, but only really busts out the cool stuff like SICK ICE RAMPS etc in private. The competition doesn't need to know everything he can do, okay, he's saving that for when he really needs it to win (and in the meantime he primarily uses fire despite being weaker in it). He used to participate in team (specifically partner) competitions more, but he had a rough split with his old partner despite how well they worked together.

Anyone who knew him as a kid, before he bailed, probably knows he's from a pretty old family with deep ties-- but it's hard to say why exactly they split. They don't talk about him and he doesn't talk about them. He used to be a pretty quiet kid who didn't get out as much.

...also he definitely did some questionable and shady things before he got steered toward putting his skills to a more athletic use, mostly along the lines of just taking advantage of tourists to keep himself afloat and generally being a shady little shit. So there's that!
